My Big Break

Since we just finished the 2017/2018 season and the fourth of July was coming up, we took a 3-day break from the office. I want everyone to know that sometimes, you just need a break. And it’s not a bad thing to take one.

In school, you get a couple days off here and there. But, when you enter the workforce, those days are extremely numbered. I always knew how important my mental health was but in this case it really hit me.

On a daily basis, we will spend more hours in our workplace than at home. Job satisfaction and levels of productivity depend on work life balance. At the same time, your job relies on a productive and engaged worker to remain focused and meet deadlines and demands.

Very rarely is anyone defined exclusively by their careers. You eventually leave work to go home and be with your family, foster friendships, and pursue personal hobbies. When work demands interfere with other aspects of your life, those aspects begin to suffer. The resulting emotional trouble can spill over into the workplace. That’s why it’s important to recognize the value of a work-life balance.

Funny enough, what I have been doing to survive my administrative work in dance is to dance. That plus spending time with friends and family and taking some moments for myself. Dance has the ability to clear my mind, so I can start new. I know that when Monday comes, I’ll be ready to take on the week.

So, do what you need to take care of yourself. You’re never wrong for doing that. And if you don’t know how, ask for help. Those around you are probably more than happy to. You’re never alone on your life journey, so please don’t think you’re alone on your mental one too.

With love,
